Virtual Management in the
Private Equity Sector

Complementing our interim management and executive search services, Marble Hill Partners’ hand-picked virtual directors expand our capability to offer a complete specialist human capital solution for investors and their portfolio companies.

A virtual director is a senior executive used when an injection of heavyweight experience is required but the circumstances would best suit a flexible consultancy contract as opposed to a fixed term, five days a week presence.

For private equity houses, our virtual directors answer the growing need for experts to be immediately available to assist with the very early stages of the deal process. Virtual directors can be parachuted into the target business for a day or two, examining any aspect of the operation that might need clarifying and effectively becoming the eyes and ears of the investor.

Exactly the same service can be applied where investors believe a portfolio business is underperforming or perhaps close to breaking covenants and in need of a health check.

Virtual directors are also available to work within portfolio companies. They are invaluable in scenarios which call for skills and experience levels not found within the management team but when the cost of an interim manager working full-time for several months cannot be justified. Used as and when required, they can work with management teams off and on throughout the lifecycle of a business, building long-term relationships without running up long-term costs. Typical skills include: strategic development and implementation; mentoring, training and development; change management; M&A and integrations.

How it works is simple: we have assembled a small, exclusive network of specialist consultants, selected because they have precisely the right mix of experience: they have worked as executive/non-executive directors, as interim directors and as consultants in leveraged companies.
